It's not just a class; it's an adventure!
Plant Biology (BIOL2020) is a majors course that examines the biology of plants from the cell to the biosphere. The learning objectives are for students to be able to 1) discuss how plants have evolved and diversified, 2) identify the basic structures, internal and external, of plants and describe their functions, 3) explain how the physiology and development of plants have adapted them to the challenges presented by the environment, 4) compare and contrast life history strategies of the major groups of plants, and 5) apply knowledge and principles of plant biology to new questions and problems.
In lab, the emphasis is on students' sharpening their skills of observation, recording their observations, thinking critically about their observations, and describing their conclusions; some of these observations are shared here on Team Pages. Students develop skills in microscopy, preparing slides, using biological stains, working in groups, collecting data, and communicating results. Check back frequently to see what we're currently exploring.
